Washington Mutual Bank
Opportunity
WAMU had grown dramatically over a period of 10 years primarily through acquisitions. Now WAMU's
strategy had changed to growing organically. This meant that they had to elevate the quality of their products
and services in order to grow their customer base, retain new customers and improve bottom line growth.
Results:
Operational Excellence, a structured process improvement methodology developed by WAMU and designed
to fit their unique culture, was developed as the strategy to achieve this goal. Goldmark was selected to
provide support with the development and implementation of the deployment plan and the training material.
From inception in April 2003, over 2200 employees have been trained in Operational Excellence, including
Senior Executives, Managers, and Practitioners.

Actaris
Opportunity:
Actaris is the only international group entirely dedicated to metering products and systems for the distribution
and allocation of electricity, gas, water and heat. They are a world leader in their market, for all meter types
and classes. Actaris offers a complete range of products covering all market segments: residential, commercial
and industrial, transport and distribution. Actaris relies on a network of 6,500 employees spread over thirty
countries, with a significant presence in Europe, Asia and South America.
The Actaris facility in Owenton, Kentucky manufactures residential gas meters for the US and Canadian
markets. Manufacture of a new lower cost modular designed gas meter had been implemented with significant
internal quality issues.
"Goldmark rolled up their sleeves, immediately became part of our project and demonstrated their
commitment to our team."
Chris Wykle, Engineering Manager, Actaris Gas Meter Co.
Results:
Goldmark was asked to team with the Actaris Managers of Quality and Design to investigate the many issues
and develop remedies to improve outgoing quality and reduce internal costs. Goldmark's approach was a
combination of hands on investigation in the factory as well as training key Actaris staff members in Six
Sigma methodology. Goldmark developed a unique approach to the application of Measurement System
Analysis that was more suited to the complexity of their outgoing performance measurement process.
Additional tools that Goldmark applied toward the success of the project included Process Mapping,
Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, and application of MiniTab software.
The results included revised manufacturing processes, redesigns based on analysis of critical variables,
significant quality cost reductions, and restored confidence in their customer base.

ISCO Industries, LLC
Opportunity:
ISCO is a mid sized company that provides HDPE Piping Products and Services. ISCO has been on a very
fast growth trend for several years. Management has concluded that the firm needs to develop a strategic
approach to managing the quality of their products and services in order to achieve and sustain the next
level of growth.
Results:
ISCO first approached Goldmark Consultants to discuss their interest in the Six Sigma Quality methodology.
After significant research, ISCO management rightly concluded that effective project selection is a key to the
successful implementation of any Business Process Improvement strategy, including Six Sigma. As a result,
ISCO began their Six Sigma deployment by providing their management team with a Team Building Workshop
and a Process Mapping workshop - designed, created and delivered by Goldmark Consultants Inc.
Now, ISCO will be positioned at the onset of their training program to provide their Six Sigma Black Belt
and Green Belt candidates with high quality projects that will link with the strategic initiatives of their business
and with customer needs.
"Teaming with Mark Goldstein of Goldmark Consultants has proven very beneficial for ISCO
Industries. As ISCO has grown, the need for documented processes and methods of continuous
improvement has become important. Mark plays a major role in training our management team to make
the cultural changes we need. His training on process mapping and team building is helping us prepare
for Six Sigma while improving our existing processes."
